Blessing Awodibu, one of the most charismatic figures in bodybuilding, is making a much-anticipated return to the stage in 2025. After an 18-month hiatus from competition, the ‘Boogieman’ has been grinding away, packing on size and refining his physique for the Pittsburgh Pro and New York Pro.
Awodibu last competed in 2022, where he secured back-to-back wins at the Indy Pro and New York Pro. However, his 2023 season was disappointing, with subpar showings at the Chicago Pro and Tampa Pro, where his legs appeared noticeably downsized compared to his upper body. Recognizing the need for improvement, Awodibu has spent the last year working under the guidance of coach Stefan Kienzl, focusing on bringing up his quad development and overall symmetry.
Currently, at over 320 lbs in the off-season, Awodibu has posted several promising physique updates, showcasing enhanced leg fullness and a more balanced frame. Given his naturally round muscle bellies and dense upper body, a well-executed prep could see him reclaim his status as a top-tier Open competitor.
The New York Pro will be a crucial test. The lineup is expected to be stacked with hungry athletes vying for Olympia qualifications. If Awodibu brings a combination of size, fullness, and shredded conditioning, he could replicate his 2022 success and punch his ticket to the Mr. Olympia stage. However, anything less than 100% conditioning could see him struggle to break into the top five.
For Awodibu, 2024 is a make-or-break year. If he fails to deliver, his future in the Men’s Open division could be uncertain. But if ‘The Boogieman’ comes in at his best, he could very well shock the bodybuilding world once again.
